Maths Morning in Team One

We have been learning about addition and subtraction in Year 1. For the open morning the children had to help the young witch with her calculation homework. They were given a selection of addition and subtraction calculations to solve using the different strategies they have learnt during this maths sequence. Some children chose to use counting objects, others chose to jump on or back using the number lines. This session gave the children a chance to consolidate previous learning. They all loved showing their grown ups how to do it too! The session ended with some great top tips to help the young witch with her homework, she will be relieved.

Maths Morning in Team One

Year 2 have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, looking at the specific vocabulary edges, vertices, faces and shape names. During the maths open morning the children were provided with consolidation activities based on previous learning. Some of the activities included: making cubes and square based pyramids from cocktail sticks and play dough, sorting 3D shapes using different criteria and creating different 3D shapes using play dough and polydron, thinking about the number of edges, faces and vertices. The children and parents enjoyed themselves and learnt lots too!
