Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to/back to Team 2 and hope that you all had a wonderful Summer Holiday!
Our topic this term is “Extreme Earth” - Please find some time to read through this term’s curriculum map as it will provide you with information about what children will be learning over the coming weeks.
The children will all be undertaking a Star Reader quiz at the beginning of the year which will help them to determine which books they will be able to read and quiz on from the library. It is expected that children will become responsible for choosing and returning their own books and we would ask that you help them at home to remember to bring their books back so they can change their books regularly.
To support your child’s learning at home, please continue to listen to them read regularly and check your child’s communication book at the end of the week the homework challenges we set.
We will be using “TimesTable Rockstar” to support the children’s times tables knowledge and if possible would encourage children to use this programme to practise their times tables at home during the week.
There will also be a times table test each week, where the children will work through times tables in a sequence. Once they have passed a test for one times table, they will move on to the next one in the sequence. Support for those who get stuck for more than a couple of weeks on the same times table will be given, however please ensure you are helping your children learn their times tables each week at home.
Each week the children will be given 10 spellings to learn. It is expected that children spend time learning these at home during the week. They will be tested on their spellings once a week and their scores recorded.
If any of you would like to volunteer, please collect a Parent’s Pack from Mrs Stoyle or Mrs Dickinson at the Office by the main entrance. We would particularly welcome any parents or Grandparents who could give up some time each week to listen to children read.
Dates for your diary
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to come and talk to your child’s teacher. We are usually available at the end of the day for a quick chat outside the main doors, or alternatively we can arrange a mutually convenient time for any longer discussions.
With kind regards,
Miss Maddison, Mrs Houston, Mrs Williams and Mrs Turagabeci
