Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year! We hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year.
We are really lucky to have a student teacher working with us this term. Mr McEvoy will be working with us in Miss Coney's class until Easter.
Our theme this half term is “Treasure Hunters”. Please find some time to read this half term’s curriculum map as it will provide you with information about what the children will be learning.

As you all know, reading forms a vital part of your child’s learning. To support this at home, we encourage that you continue to listen to them read regularly, whether they are reading book banded books or Accelerated Reader books. It is important that your child reads a book 3 times to build their fluency and full understanding of the text. Please also ask your child questions about what they have read, to help build their comprehension skills. If you have any questions regarding the above, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
We will be making our own treasure islands in Art and DT this half term. If you have any toilet or kitchen roll tubes and old newspaper these would be useful for us to help create our islands.
Please can we ask that children do not wear tights to school on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as they are doing gymnastics and dance with Mr Evans and will need to have bare feet in these lessons. If possible, it would be of great benefit for them to wear trousers or leggings on those days.
Pirate Day – Open Afternoon – Wednesday 5th February
As part of our theme, we will be having a pirate day where children can come dressed in pirate themed clothing for the day. The afternoon of this day will be our open afternoon to which you are all invited. This will provide the opportunity for the children to share their learning from this half term. The date for this is Wednesday 5th February and the open afternoon will start at 2:30pm. We hope you can make it!
If any of you would like to volunteer, please collect a volunteer pack from the Office. We would particularly welcome any parents or grandparents who could give up some time each week to listen to children read.
