Team 2 Orienteering at QE

Our Year 3 and 4 children had an exciting afternoon a QE this week, taking part in a hands‑on orienteering event!
We completed a scavenger hunt—always a favourite. The children worked in teams looking for different objects around the site. We also looked at different points of a compass. The children explored how direction works and practised using north, south, east and west to orient themselves around the school grounds. They quickly became confident navigators!
Finally, the pupils completed a map‑reading activity, using a detailed site map to locate real orienteering control points. This required careful observation and communication, but the children rose to the challenge brilliantly, plotting routes and checking off each marker they found.
It was a fantastic afternoon full of outdoor learning, active exploration and teamwork. A huge thank‑you to the QE students staff for hosting us—and well done to all our young explorers for their energy, resilience and brilliant map‑reading skills!
