We regularly review skills and experience across our governors against the recommendations of the National Governors Association and our own priorities so that, when we have a vacancy, we know what sort of person we need to bring in to the team. We usually find that person from among the parents at Landscore or from the Crediton community.

The full governing body meets 10 times a year. In line with its strategic role, its focus for these meetings is school improvement.

Governors

The governing body are responsible for the strategic direction of the school, for holding the Headteacher to account for educational outcomes and for making sure that money is well spent.

The governing body works in partnership with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team. Acting as a 'critical friend' the governing body has a role to support and challenge the work of the school.

We have twelve governors - one is the Headteacher; one is a staff governor; three parent governors; one Local Authority governor and seven co-opted governors. These are individuals who are asked to join the governing body due to the skills and expertise they bring.

Chris Parkes

I relocated from Hertfordshire to Crediton with my family in January 2020. I am a Chartered Surveyor with over 40 years experience in the property industry. I specialise in providing Estates and Development advice to the public sector. This includes a range of Local Authorities, Colleges and Universities. I currently provide advice and assistance to the Crediton Heart Project. I was previously a Governor and Facilities Committee Chair at a Primary School in Hertfordshire.

I am an occasional violinist, keen white-water kayaker, canoe polo player, bodyboarder and paddleboarder with a strong interest in water safety.

Vicki Gillon

I joined the Governing Body in 2023 and my daughters are currently in KS1 and KS2 at Landscore. My background is in education, and I currently work locally across a Trust focussing on school improvement and inclusion. I am passionate about creating opportunities for all children to achieve; making sure their school experience gives them great memories, long-lasting friendships and the best chance of success in life.

Hazel Hodge

I was co opted as a Landscore governor in 2010 for my early years experience - at the time Manager of Pippins and running Kidz Star Club. Prior to this my son attended Landscore who now has children of his own! I was an active PTA member and we raised funds for the initial playground equipment.

My initial career was with NatWest for 18 years, Pippins and Kidz Star club for 19 years. I now work for Humpty Dumpty childcare in Kingsteignton having secured a job which gives me the flexibility of caring for my grandchildren.

Liz Brooks-Hocking

I am a town councillor and was co-opted in 2016 as part of the school’s aspiration to strengthen its community connections and local knowledge. It works both ways, in fact, as the council is keen to work with all 3 schools in the town and it’s helpful to know how at least one of them works and what its challenges are.

I have lived in Crediton for nearly 40 years. My children went to Haywards and QE so I’ve seen quite a few changes for the young people of the town during that time.

Christine Kinch

My daughter started at Landscore in 2022 and loves it here. I wanted to give something back to the school, and became a Parent Governor at the beginning of 2025. We live locally, and I work within the NHS. I'm looking forward to helping shape the way for the school to continue to be a great asset in the community.

Adam Box

I have lived in Crediton since 1982 when I started teaching at Queen Elizabeth’s School where I taught Geography to students across the age range and was Head of Year from 1992 – 2015. I also worked as a staff governor for many years and acted as a Union Representative for teaching staff. I retired from QE in 2019.

My two children attended Landscore School between 2000 and 2010 and greatly enjoyed their time there.

In my free time I enjoy travelling, skiing, kayaking and tinkering with my classic car.
