Year 1 Maths 9.2.21

Today in maths we are continuing to work on finding one more and one less.

Use this counting back in ones song to get you warmed up and ready to start today. Ask a grown up to stop the song in different places so that you can identify the next number - the number that is one less. Click here and get ready to join in.

Now have a look at this video.

You could click here for the power point slides if you would prefer to go at your own pace.

Remember to share your ideas and answers with a grown up.

Finally, I would like you to complete the second part (questions 3 and 4) of this worksheet.

Grown ups: I would recommend using tens frames and counters / beads / pasta OR objects from around the house to represent the tens and ones eg pencils and counters / beads. This will help your child to see the number and understand what is happening when we find 1 more and 1 less.

Want more maths?

Look at the number grid to 50 with a grown up. Take turns picking a number for the other person to point to. Then ask each other, What is 1 more than / 1 less than that number?

Remember to use a whole sentence when saying your answer eg 1 more than ... is ... or 1 less than ... is ...

You could also record your 1 more than / 1 less than problem as an addition or subtraction calculation.
