We are currently working on phase 5 in our phonics work. The children need to be able to read and spell words containing the graphemes (spelling choices) in phase 5.
Click here for a list of phase 5 graphemes.
The phonics play website has games which will help your child to practise reading and spelling real and alien words. There are also opportunities to practise phase 2, 3 and 4 sounds / graphemes if your child is not yet secure with these.
The phonics bloom website also has some good games which will allow your child to practise and apply their phase 5 phonic knowledge. There are also opportunities to practise phase 2, 3 and 4 sounds / graphemes if your child is not yet secure with these.
In Year 1, the children also need to be able to read and spell a range of high frequency words (words that are commonly used).
Click here for a list of words that your child can practise reading and spelling. I would recommend you pick a set of 4 or 5 words at a time to focus on.
The Little Birds Spelling game is good for helping to read and spell some of the Year 1 words. You need to click on Year 1 and then choose a bird box for a list of words which are suitable for your child.
You could also try the Topmarks website, which has a selection of games for spelling and reading.
If your child will be off school for more than 2 days, please contact Mrs Williams for a more specific phonics focus / work pack.
